Job Summary: Design, plan, and implement effective Choir lessons based on the state curriculum for students under the teacher’s supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:
|
1.

Create a classroom that provides a welcoming, nurturing and stimulating environment appropriate to the intellectual and emotional development of students.
|
2.
|
Develop and implement lesson plans that follow the curriculum and teach the TEKS.
|
3.
|
Design, plan, and implement effective Choir instruction
|
4.
|
Teach students music theory so that they are able to proficiently read music at a difficulty level that is consistent with the years of instruction they have received.
|
5.
|
Teach students music appreciation by exposing them to music from a variety of genres and artists.
|
6.
|
Expose students to the rich history behind music by teaching them about the lives of famous musicians from different eras, cultures, and different music genres.
|
7.
|
Teach students to identify the various types of music associated with the different eras in our society.
|
8.
|
Teach students the proper method for handling and caring for their vocals.
|
9.
|
Design lessons that integrate traditional core subjects with music.
|
10.
|
Help students understand the relationship between music and the core subjects of math, reading, and social studies.
|
11.
|
On an ongoing basis, design and implement effective assessments, based on objective measures to determine student progress and proficiency in music.
|
12.
|
Facilitate the development of individual student portfolios that show case their work. Portfolios may be in the form of students playing various pieces to demonstrate their progression.
|
13.
|
Collaborate with classroom teachers to deliver integrated lessons.
|
14.
|
Research, identify, and create both in and out of school opportunities for students to apply classroom theory in authentic, real world settings.
|
15.
|
Compile, maintain and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
|
16.
|
Communicate frequently with students and their parents that may include home visits.
|
17.
|
Communicate with the CEO and Principal regarding students, parents, lesson plans, curriculum, needed materials, extracurricular activities, field experiences and any other concerns.
|
18.
|
Follow the educator’s code of ethics and code of conduct and behave professionally, ethically, and responsibly.
|
19.
|
Ability to teach and train by ear, sight and harmony.
|
20.
|
Must be willing to travel and teach students at all campuses.
|
21.
|
Performs any additional duties related to ongoing effectiveness of program as directed.
|
Education: Bachelor’s Degree from a four year, accredited university.
Certification: NCLB, Highly qualified valid Texas Teaching Certificate as required by teaching assignment or acceptance to approved Alternative Certification Program and results of TEXes exam.
|
Work Experience:
Previous experience working with elementary age students is preferred.
Documented performance resume that includes at least 3 years of experience as a professional musician
Formal training in music theory
Formal training in the application of principles of music

- Ability to keep accurate files and records.
