Job Summary:  To assist the teacher of exceptional students or students classified under Special Education guidelines in performing assigned tasks in support of a quality educational program.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

1.

Provide direct on-campus support to all member schools of the Special Education Cooperative.

2.

Assist teacher in preparing materials and equipment for the direct instructional activity, including copying, distributing, and or grouping materials to support instructional activities in the classroom. 

3.

Assist with monitoring all instructional and related services provided to students with disabilities

4.

Follow appropriate training and lead small group activities planned by the teacher in an atmosphere where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.

5.

Maintain a clean and orderly environment for students.

6.

Assist in assessing student progress as directed, including proctoring the administration of tests, grading papers, and maintaining confidential records

7.

Assist the teacher in completing requirements for grade reporting, scheduling conferences, and recording results.

8.

Assist as assigned in the collection of assessment data from a variety of sources and in compiling and organizing data for review by the teacher.

9.

Assist the teacher in the enforcement of classroom rules and the maintenance of appropriate records.

 10.

Assist students with personal hygiene, health, and safety issues or grooming if required.

11.

Use a communication system to keep administrators informed of support provided to campuses.

12.

Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.

13.

Provide training to campus teams regarding procedural and legal issues.

 11.

Assist special education teachers with Extended School Year referrals and data collection.

13.

Review data and support continuous improvement for assigned campuses

14.

Attend regularly scheduled RTI and Referral Meetings

15.

Transition Coordinator for students age 13 and up

16.

Performs any additional duties related to the ongoing effectiveness of the program as directed.

Education:  High School diploma required; Two years of college credit from an accredited university preferred.

 

Certification:  Educational Aide certification /NCLB  preferred

Work Experience:  0-2 years of instructional aide experience.

  • Ability to implement the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment (ADAAA), Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act, section 706(8), and other applicable federal and state civil rights legislation.
  • Ability to review and implement agency policies, procedures, and operating guidelines.
  • Ability to convey and interpret information to students.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with students, parents, administrators, and other professionals involved in the education of TRS students.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions, with possible occurrences of extreme heightened stress.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders and maintain a professional, courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to keep accurate files and records.

    • Fund Source:  CRRSA ESSER II – 100%
  • CRRSA ESSER II funded positions may perform no duties outside the intent of the CRRSA ESSER II program.
  • This position is funded through September 30, 2023, under the federal CRRSA ESSER II grant. Continuation of the position beyond that date is contingent on available funding.
